This balun system allows installers to take advantage of Cat5 (or higher) cable for making long runs of component video. Baluns essentially convert the signal to send it across a Cat5 cable. On the opposite end the balun decodes the signal and converts it back to component video.

Component Video Cables > Balun > Cat5 Cable > Balun > Component Video Cables

To use this system you would install one balun at the video source by connecting the outputs of the video source to the inputs of the balun. Then connect a Cat5 (or higher) cable to the back of the balun. On the receiving end you would install the other balun by connecting to the same Cat5 cable. Then connect the component video outputs from the balun to the inputs of the TV or device that you want to connect the component video to.

Note: In rare circumstances video quality can be distorted due to a ground loop on your video signal source. This can be corrected by installing a ground loop isolator.
